SPEAKERS CV
DAVID CONNEY is an offshore private client attorney with over 20 years' experience. He has lived and worked in the industry in the Caribbean, the Channel Islands, and in Zurich. David is also a UK Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) and serving on STEP committees in four jurisdictions over the course of his career (currently on STEP Guernsey Committee).
David is a Group Partner with Walkers Global, Guernsey. He advises trustees and settlors (and their family offices) on complex international private client structures with (typically) British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and Guernsey connections. David has established PTC structures across multiple jurisdictions and frequently advises PTCs and their directors on a range of matters, including their regulatory obligations. He has advised on and implemented multiple PTC ownership arrangements (including the use of Foundations, companies limited by guarantee, and purpose trusts) and is regularly instructed to assist clients in selecting an appropriate PTC jurisdiction and/or to weigh up the pros and cons of PTC v regulated corporate trustee.
RICHARD JOYNT is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA from Warwick University, working in Jersey for Highvern, a global fiduciary and administration firm. Richard is responsible for managing some of the more high value client relationships, often with innovative structures. He is the supervising Client Director for more than 10 complex PTC structures with a variety of Board compositions. Some of these have been established to create an institutional-style level of governance, and often they intersect with clients’ family offices to support their global objectives.
PEDRO GEMAL is a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and a member of STEP working at Sequent in Switzerland as a Wealth Planner. Pedro provides in-house legal support on a broad range of matters relating to fiduciary structures, working with families and external advisors on the implementation of wealth and succession planning solutions. His experience includes implementation and technical support in the administration of bespoke PTC structures, with a particular focus on internal governance. As part of this, Pedro also acts as director or board observer of complex PTCs.
MARC BLUMENFELD is a Swiss Attorney at law, founder of Alithis AG in Switzerland and STEP Zurich committee member. He provides services to single family offices, professional trustees and other financial intermediaries focusing on regulatory and compliance matters. Since 2020, Marc has obtained FINMA exemptions from Swiss licensing requirements for a number DTCs and PTCs.
