STEP Verein was established in 2008 to replace the former STEP Swiss German and Liechtenstein Branches and to provide a central point of contact and communication for external organisations such as FINMA, FATF etc.

In 2016 the Swiss and Liechtenstein STEP Federation (SLSF) was established to better unite the efforts of all Swiss and Liechtenstein branches on one platform in a coherent and effective manner and to provide one point of contact for national and international bodies. Members of SLSF are Verein STEP, STEP Geneva, STEP Basel and STEP Lausanne. SLSF has been organising the Alpine Conference which is held each year in Interlaken.

After 8 years of SLSF existence, the governing committee of Verein STEP analysed the current set-up and concluded that the various regions Lucerne/Zug, Lugano, Zurich and Vaduz should have their own voice in SLSF receiving more autonomy. SLFS should not only organise the successful Alpine Conference but should work even more closely together on topics and issues concerning our members throughout Switzerland. SLSF shall speak with one voice while representing all regions of Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

In order to achieve this aim, it has therefore been decided to establish four new independent Vereins as follows:

• STEP Zurich
• STEP Lucerne/Zug
• STEP Lugano
• STEP Liechtenstein

The memberships have been transfered by 1st of April 2025 from Verein STEP to the respective new Verein, therefore giving the members and their branch an active voice in SLSF. 

We are convinced this is the right step forward to strengthen the Swiss and Liechtenstein STEP Federation.
