Patrick Schmutz is a partner in the Zurich based law firm Vallucci & Schmutz. He graduated from the University of Zurich with a law degree and from the University of Florida with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation. He is qualified as an attorney-at-law in Switzerland and has been practicing for more than twenty-five years as a private client lawyer. Patrick Schmutz has a broad professional and educational background that affords him the ability to represent private clients, executives and entrepreneurs in complex estate planning and trust matters. As a former in-house counsel and director at two multinational Swiss banks, he is very well acquainted with the legal, regulatory and tax issues arising in the context of assets held at Swiss banks by foreign resident high net worth individuals and families.

Having worked for many years at one of Zurich’s leading commercial law firms, Patrick Schmutz has extensive experience advising clients on Swiss and cross-border succession planning matters with a particular emphasis on the optimization of income, estate and gift taxes arising in this context. Moreover, he regularly advises Swiss charitable foundations on legal, regulatory and tax matters and individuals on the establishment or management of charitable foundations.

His practice also focuses on litigation and dispute resolution arising in connection with Swiss estates or foreign estates with assets held in Switzerland. He also represents private clients in disputes with Swiss based trustees, insurance companies or banks.
