Tim Urquhart practised as a Solicitor for 22 years in England having been made a partner in an English firm in 1971, and during that time was primarily responsible for the creation and development of the firm's French and subsequently European Practice.

In 1990 he became the partner-in-charge of the French unit of his firm and thereafter was responsible for the opening of the firm's two French Offices. In April 1992 Tim was appointed co-ordinating Partner for all the firm's continental European Offices which in addition to France included offices in Denmark, Brussels and Germany. In this role he took an active part in developing and expanding the firm's practice in Europe.

Tim became an Associate member of the American Bar Association in 1990 and helped to create an extensive network of correspondent law firms in the USA.

In 1994, having retired from practice, Tim joined Rothschild Trust Switzerland where he held the office of Managing Director until October 2001, when he was promoted to the position of the Chief Executive Officer.

In 2008 , he retired from Rothchild's.
