Stuart Clements qualified as an accountant in the UK having served his apprenticeship there with a Swiss industrial company. After a few years as an accountant in the hotel industry he moved to Switzerland in 1972 to work for an international auditing company, and later joined a major fiduciary company. He set up his own practice as trustee in 1987.

He retired in 2002 and now devotes much of his time to STEP activities, and is the Secretary of the Zurich centre, as well as heading up the STEP Office in Zug.

He is the contact person in the German-speaking Switzerland for Central Law Training Ltd., the company that provides the tuition for the STEP Foundation and Diploma courses in International Trust Management.

He is non-executive Chairman of Huber Partners AG, a medium sized family office in Zurich.
