Mark Summers

Mark Summers heads Charles Russell Speechlys AG, City of London law firm Charles Russell Speechlys LLP's associated Swiss law firm. Mark joined the Private Client department of then Speechly Bircham in London in 2004 having trained and qualified as an English solicitor at Eversheds' London office. He was admitted as a solicitor in 2001. In 2007 he became a partner at Speechly Bircham within the international private client team and in 2011 he relocated permanently with his family to Switzerland to found the new Zurich office. Speechly Bircham merged with Charles Russell in 2014.  Mark is registered on the EU List of foreign lawyers regulated to practise in Zurich. He resides in the canton of Zug.

Mark became a full member of STEP in 2010 via the qualified practitioner route and received the STEP President's Prize in England & Wales for his thesis in the taxation section.

Mark's practice has a strong emphasis on cross border taxation and estate planning particularly for US and European clients with a financial services or business focus. He also deals with complex cross border tax disclosure and reporting issues.  He has spoken extensively at STEP branches and conferences in the US, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

Mark is recognised by Chambers & Partners Global and HNW guides and Legal 500 Switzerland as a leading international private client practitioner and was named one of the Legal Week Global Private Client Elite in 2017.

Mark received his BSc and ARCS in Chemistry from Imperial College London and the Ecole Normale Superieure rue d'Ulm Paris. He subsequently received his Common Professional Examination and Legal Practice Course from the College of Law in London.

He lectures regularly on cross border tax and estate planning issues in professional seminars and as part of Northwestern University, Chicago’s LLM program.
